Overview
One of the oldest categories in the auction world, the paintings section is one which is constantly changing with fashion. Where once the higher prices were seen in classical paintings of the kind we all associate with high value, now the opposite can be the case and modern art in various previously unheard of media are being sold for figures we could never have imaged ten years ago.
Harper Field’s ‘local’ artist Damien Hirst has a huge following and buyers are always drawn by any entry of his work, a younger generation of discerning collector is acquiring pieces by Banksy and other buyers are collecting Oliver Heywood works featuring their local area.
